Electric Aviation Takes Flight: Carriers Commit to All-Green Fleets by 2030

Three major carriers announce binding targets to transition regional fleets to electric and hydrogen aircraft.

Three major carriers operating regional routes of less than 1,000 kilometres have announced binding commitments to transition to electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft by the end of the decade — a target that seemed implausible as recently as three years ago.

“The economics have fundamentally changed,” said one chief executive. “Two years ago, electric aviation was a promising technology with a fifteen-year horizon. Today it is a viable business decision with a five-year horizon.”
