Tech Conglomerate Unveils Quantum Processor That Outpaces Rivals by Factor of Forty

The breakthrough chip achieves computational benchmarks previously considered a decade away.

A major technology conglomerate has unveiled a quantum processor that outperforms the nearest competitor by a factor of forty on tasks relevant to drug discovery, materials science and cryptographic applications.

The chip is based on a novel topological qubit architecture developed in secret over six years, achieving stability previously considered at least a decade away.

“This is not an incremental improvement,” said the head of quantum research. “This is the kind of step change that happens once in a generation.”

Cybersecurity professionals warned that applied to cryptographic problems, the chip could render current encryption standards obsolete.
