Global Supply Chain Study Reveals Hidden Fragility in Critical Technology Components

A two-year investigation finds that 73% of critical electronic components rely on single-source suppliers.

A two-year investigation into global supply chains has found that 73 percent of components classified as essential to national infrastructure rely on single-source suppliers, most in geopolitically sensitive regions.

The study examined supply chains for semiconductors, rare earth materials, precision optics, and advanced battery materials.

“The vulnerability is more acute than most governments appreciate,” said the lead author. “We have built extraordinarily sophisticated technological infrastructure on extraordinarily fragile supply foundations.”

The report recommends coordinated diversification and strategic stockpiling requiring combined investment of approximately $2 trillion over ten years.
