New Study Links Microplastic Concentrations to Cognitive Decline

A 15-year study following 40,000 participants finds significant association between blood microplastic levels and neurological deterioration.

A fifteen-year longitudinal study tracking 40,000 participants has found a statistically significant association between blood microplastic concentrations and markers of neurological deterioration.

Participants with concentrations in the highest quartile were 36 percent more likely to show measurable cognitive decline than those in the lowest quartile, after controlling for age, diet and other confounding variables.

The researchers caution that the study demonstrates association rather than causation and call for further research into the biological mechanisms.
