The house that has won this year’s Home of the Year award is not trying to impress you. It is trying to put you at ease — which, in the current climate of domestic architecture, is a considerably more radical ambition.
Set on the edge of a small town in Norway, the three-bedroom house was designed for a family that had lived in it for twenty years before a comprehensive renovation.
“We wanted every room to feel like somewhere you would want to be,” says the homeowner. “Not somewhere you would want to photograph, or impress guests in. Somewhere you actually want to be.”
