The outdoor kitchen has evolved. What was once a weatherproof extension of indoors has become, in the hands of the best designers, an entirely autonomous space with its own logic, character and claim on how a summer afternoon should be spent.

“People have realised that cooking outside is not a compromise,” says one designer. “It is a completely different experience, requiring completely different design thinking.”
