Over sixty-two stages spread across three days of weather that moved between clear mountain conditions and sea-level fog, the rally produced a narrative with the structure of a thriller: three genuine title contenders, a rotating lead, and a final day requiring all three to drive beyond what their machines could sustain.
The winner crossed the ceremonial finish with a cracked front subframe and a shattered rear differential held together with wire since the penultimate stage.
“I knew the car was struggling,” he said. “I drove as fast as the car would let me. The car let me drive fast enough.”
